R. Phillip Doss, MD, FACS

R. Philip Doss, M.D., FACS is a distinguished ophthalmologist dedicated to preserving, restoring, and enhancing vision through advanced medical and surgical care. With decades of experience and a longstanding commitment to innovation and compassionate patient care, Dr. Doss combines modern ophthalmic techniques with a deep respect for the body’s natural healing capacities.
Dr. Doss earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, where his father served as an international missionary pastor. He completed his transitional internship at Loma Linda University–White Memorial Medical Center, followed by a comprehensive ophthalmology residency at the same institution, where he developed a strong foundation in both clinical and surgical ophthalmology.
He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Doss has contributed as a member of several leading professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He currently serves as Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the USC Keck School of Medicine and has contributed to collaborative research with Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA and the Center for the Study of Macular Degeneration at UCSB.
In clinical practice, Dr. Doss serves as Medical Director of Doss Eye Medical Group, a longstanding multispecialty ophthalmology practice, and as Medical Director of Doss Eye Surgery Center. His leadership reflects a sustained commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and high-quality surgical outcomes.
Beyond his clinical and academic work, Dr. Doss is deeply committed to service. He actively participates in community health initiatives and international medical missions, providing care to underserved populations around the world.
Dr. Doss has contributed to the advancement of ophthalmology through numerous publications, presentations, and surgical innovations. He has been a pioneer in the field of Microincisional Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), remains actively involved in MIGS research, and holds several patents in this area. His work has been recognized with honors from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Proficient in Spanish and Arabic, Dr. Philip Doss is widely respected for his expertise, integrity, and compassionate approach to patient care. He remains dedicated to improving both vision and quality of life for his patients.
